Jim,

Did you have the slow search issue right after they upgraded your memory and gave you Win 7?

I've seen some people who have had that issue with a slow search in the start menu. In a couple instances, it inexplicably resolved itself. On the internet, some people reported having these issues with Win 7 after installing either KB978506 or KB977074. You could try going to program features and uninstalling either of those updates.

If that doesn't help, you could reinstall them.

Hi Doris:

Thanks for calling me a geek and saying that I am irresponsible and that I am copping-out by asking my wife for assistance.

A tech person told me to do that, I know next time not to listen to what they say until I read up and investigate the issue myself as I’ve always done.

I am a self-taught computer user. I have always learned by trial and error.

As far as these kinds of changes, I normally would not do them, but they assured me that it would be OK to do so.

My problem started when I had the staples store install windows 7 on my vista computer and I also had them install more memory as well.

Now, when I type a search into the search box on the start menu, I have to type just about the whole word and press down arrow to get the search results list to come up.

This works, but it is annoying. I have called Freedom’s Scientifics’ tech. 2 team about this issue. They have no idea why the search edit field is not behaving correctly.

Since you are an advanced user, do you have any suggestions?

Also I want to thank you Steve for your reply.

Jim
