Update. I've discovered a way to begin building my google preferences directly into the URL. Then I can just bookmark that URL and get the results I am shooting for.

Examples:

To turn off google instant add ion=0 to the URL.

To turn off auto completion add complete=0 to the URL

To get 50 results per page, add num=50 to the URL.

So, if I don't want auto completion, don't want google instant, and want 50 results per page, I would go to:

http://www.google.com/?complete=0&ion=0&num=50

Note the questionmark after the slash and the ampersand signs between the parameters.

Once you go to that URL for the first time, bookmark it. Now, when you want to search, just use that bookmark.

I'm messing around to see if I can figure out more of the preferences this way.
