no it was exactly the same

I know, I'm still using XP here until I build my new box

and so are four other computers in the house here.

which comes after I take care of a couple ailing teeth, so in a short while or so

OK. I found it and did it properly this time. Thanks. I had to right arrow
when I got to New and I found folder, pressed enter, named the folder, and
pressed enter. I think maybe the process was somewhat different in XP.

When in my documents, press alt-f for the files menu, and arrow down to "new
submenu".
Press enter. The first choice is folder, and it acts like Windows XP.
there is a 'new journal document' which creates a file with the extension
.jnt. You don't want that, though. Folder, on my submenu, is the first
option.

Good luck!

If I try to create a new folder in My Documents in Windows 7, I get a
document with an nt extension and jaws says journal. That is different
from the folders I created in My Documents previously on my XP computer
and that were transferred to this new one. They just have the names I
gave them. Is there something different about creating new folders in
My Documents in Win7?
