David,

The BNS200 can change how the file is treated by the way the file is named.
You have gotten this idea from some of the responses. The way to do this is:

1. Open the "Options" with a Control O. I'll not guess you know, so the
space bar with the Braille "O" will perform the Control "O".

2. Press the "F" key to open the file menu.
If you were in the phone file, you should be pointing to it. You can
verify with the Control "C" (Say Line) or Control 5-6 (Spell Word).

3. Press the Control "R" to Rename. I will guess your file is phone without
any extension. Now, after pressing the Control "R", type in the name of
phone.txt and press Control "E" (enter).

This will now have the BNS treat the content of the file as Grade 1 text.

If you had an extension, i.e. if you were using the default file of
phone.brl, let me know and I will help as this will have to work
differently.

Hi,

I was able to create a grade one file with the .txt extension.

Problem still that my phone file with many entries is still apparently grade
two for some reason so is there any way to change it back to grade one?

Thanks,

David

hmmm, this is what's in the bns 2000 manual:

Create file: c (Files with no extension or with an extension of brl, brf,
bfm or br? [any third character] will be grade 2 files. All other files will
be assumed to be Computer braille.)

so if your files have no extentions they are considered grade 2 braille. if
you have the extention of .txt that should be considered computer braille.
