Hi Susie q, If you use Humanware Companion you can transfer the .DOC file and it should be automatically changed to a HTML file. You won't need to save it in a different format in Word if you use that program. Choose the Text Files menu item under the Transfer menu. Browse to the location of the .DOC file on the computer and check it for transfer with the spacebar. Use the Transfer button to start the transfer. There will be a dialog box letting you know when the transfer is finished. The file should be changed to a HTML file in your Text File library.
Write me off line if you need any more help with using Humanware Companion to transfer your .DOC files. Take care. Ok thanks so much the docquments I am working on is my own writing. I am writing a book that I started in word 2003, and when I took them from my old computer and now, I am doing a rewrite, and when I am done, I want to put the rewrite on the stream, to read them with Samantha! And not read is that making more scence? Thanks so much for all the help? Do I still have to change the format to plain text, like I did before? Or just open the stream, and place it there! su -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Brian Lee Sent: September-02-12 3:08 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] question about word 2010 and Jaws 13? Hi Susie q, Don't confuse compatibility mode with protected view mode. Compatibility mode just means that Word 2010 is letting you open a file from an earlier version of Word. You can still edit the document and save it as usual. JAWS just reads the title bar when opening the document and so you hear that it is being opened in compatibility mode. You don't have to save it in the new format. If all you are wanting to do is transfer the edited file to your Stream then you might as well just leave it in the .DOC format. On the other hand if there are features in Word 2010 that you want to use that weren't available in the earlier versions of Word then you might want to use the newer format. The compatibility mode is not the same as the protected mode and it is not a safety feature. If Word thinks a document might be from an unsafe source then it will open in protected view, which is like a sandboxed area. Documents from programs using the Internet zone are examples of documents opened in protected view. You don't need to worry about documents opened in compatibility mode so if all you are wanting to do is put them on the Stream you really don't need to use the newer format. Take care. Yes, you can go into Word Options and tell it to create/save documents in the old .doc format. ----- Original Message ----- From: Susie q To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, September 01, 2012 5:17 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] question about word 2010 and Jaws 13? It means you are using a newer version of Microsoft Office. The 2007 and up use the .d o c x as the standard default format, instead of the older .d o c file type in Microsoft Word in Office versions 2003 and below. ----- Original Message ----- From: Susie q To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, September 01, 2012 9:10 AM Subject: [JAWS-Users] question about word 2010 and Jaws 13?
