hmmm, you could try updating your sound card drivers

I am having a similar trouble on my machine, using stock sound and video
cards and am thinking of replacing them with higher quality ones to see if
that fixes it, though it sounds like it will from what is said here

It does happen on my new Win7 64 Bit machine. I plugged a USB sound
card in and am using that rather than the on board audio and this
seemed to solve the problem for the most part

For the second time, jaws today crashed right out of the blue and when
I tried to hit control alt j to start and shift tab, jaws said, jaws
not responding. Tabbing didn't work and I got no speech. I shift
tabbbed a number of times and still got that message jaws not
responding. My start menu wouldn't even work. This happened yesterday.
Using jaws 13.0.1006 the latest built on a 64 bit vista dell laptop.
Has anyone else had this problem? I had to press the power button to
shut the computer off and then start. This is very frustrating, to say
the least. Eloquence even stuttered, es es es es es es es es. This is
so ridiculous.
