No problem Jerry.
NVDA is a free screen reader for Windows. Many of the keystrokes which you already use in Jaws work the same in NVDA. It is not as robust as Jaws, but every screen reader user should have at least two screen readers available to them, for those time when you encounter a problem such as you are having on the Hadley site. You can download and install NVDA from: http://www.nvda-project.org/wiki/Download On the download page, you will find a link labeled NVDA 2012.2.1 Main Package. The NVDA key is the same as the Jaws key (Insert on the numpad). To terminate NVDA use Insert Q. To open the NVDA configuration menu, use Insert N. I switch between NVDA and Jaws all the time. I also install NVDA on all of my sighted clients computers, so I can easily work on them. The NVDA program is supported by donations, so if you end up liking it, send them a few dollars.

John:

Forgive my ignorance, but what is NVDA? I have never heard of it.

If you have NVDA installed, give the page a try using that screen reader. Even using Jaws 13, there are sites where NVDA will read elements that Jaws fails to find. My guess is that the buttons that Jaws is having problems were created using JavaScript. The Hadley folks should know better than that, because screen readers and JavaScript do not play well together.
Let us know how you make out.

To All Listers:

My counselor had suggested I take a online course from The Hadley School for the Blind. I was able to access all of the information pretty well, until it came to doing the actual lesson. Towards the bottom of the lesson, there are two buttons. One says "Save Changes" and the other says "Submit". My wife, who is sighted, informs me that these buttons are there, as does the technical help person at the Hadley School. However, JAWS does not read or recognize these buttons. I am using JAWS version 11, Windows Vista on a 32 bit system, and IE 9. The tech help desk is researching the problem, but I was wondering if anyone on the list might have some suggestions.

Many thanks.
Jerry
