you probably have the "show all" button pressed in Word. I don't know what
version of word you're using, but in word2010, in the home ribbon, under the
paragraph group, there is a button called "show all". If that button is
"pressed", then every paragraph, page, section mark etc will be read aloud
by jaws. Turn it off by hitting enter on the Show all button in the
Paragraph group of the home tab.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS saying 'paragraph mark' and 'new line' in Word
I have Windows XP and JAWS 12. Just the other day I was using Microsoft
Word and when I would hit the enter key, in-between the lines JAWS would
say 'paragraph mark' and also 'new line' I was looking at older documents
of mine and those are doing the same thing even when this problem started a
couple of days ago. I haven't changed any settings that I know of and I
only think Microsoft is effected. If I send an attachment to someone that
is from Microsoft Word, the document isn't showing up but, before JAWS
started saying 'paragraph mark' and 'new line' the attachments showed up
for others.
Any help please of what I can do to have JAWS stop saying this and if it
does, will people start to see the documents that I send to them?
Thank you,
Melissa
