I presume it is the *showing* of the paragraph marks or whatever, rather than the actual paragraph or lines or whatever, that one wants to turn off. (Just a small point.)

Actually, ControlShift+8 (not F8) will convert paragraph marks to a pair of new line marks. I didn't know this until I tried your suggestion and found that paragraph marks became a pair of new line marks. Live and learn.

Again, to turn off reading of special marks, unpress the "show all" button in the paragraph group of the home ribbon tab.

If memory serves control + shift + F8 will turn off those announcements.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS saying 'paragraph mark' and 'new line' in Word

I have Windows XP and JAWS 12. Just the other day I was using Microsoft Word and when I would hit the enter key, in-between the lines JAWS would say 'paragraph mark' and also 'new line' I was looking at older documents of mine and those are doing the same thing even when this problem started a couple of days ago. I haven't changed any settings that I know of and I only think Microsoft is effected. If I send an attachment to someone that is from Microsoft Word, the document isn't showing up but, before JAWS started saying 'paragraph mark' and 'new line' the attachments showed up for others.

Any help please of what I can do to have JAWS stop saying this and if it
does, will people start to see the documents that I send to them?

Thank you,
Melissa
