It's to do with Java controls. Whatever, alt+DownArrow is the surest way
to open the combo box via keyboard and then use arrow keys to have
control over what you want to select, not have it automatically or
randomly chosen.

Hello Flor,
Yes, this is true most of the time, but now an then I have run across
combo boxes that when opened if you arrow down it activates the
selected item. I think it is because the developer thought it a good
idea to have quick response to a sighted persons mouse click. So, if
a normal alt down arrow then down arrowing through the list works
great! If not, the jaws cursor can navidgate without selecting an
item in the list.

Commonly, after you open the combo box with alt+DownArrow, you only
need
to arrow through the combo box (or use the first letter of the item
you
want to select).

Hello Suey,
What I have tried in the past is activating the combo box with an alt
down arrow. Then I activated the jaws cursor, routed the jaws cursor
to pc cursor. Then went down the list with jaws until I found the
item I wanted then routed the pc to jaws. If you know the first
letter of the item in the box and there are not others with the same
first letter you can enter the box and press the first letter. I
hope this helps! I know this is a pain.
Sincerely, Ryan West

Subject: [JAWS-Users] combo boxes
Can anybody help me with a combo box problem? When I enter a combo
box on a website, as soon as I press up or down arrow it selects the
item directly above or below and refreshes the web page accordingly
rather than letting me read all of the items in the box and choose
the one that I want. Is there a way to solve this?
