Thanks for your suggestions.  Yes I did download the 64bit version of IE10.

has the Windows7 Professional IE any differences? Do you need to upgrade 
to IE    10? If not, then why do it - when your
system doesn't indicate it. (Perhaps the error is leading to something in
Windows7 SP1 that didn't turn out for you quite as it should.) Did you
download the 32-bit IE10 or the 64-bit IE10? The latter is what you require,
of course.
