It could be your router.

One standard thing that I had to do for just about every other week when I had DSL with AT&T, was to do the modem-router reset thing. It always seemed to improve my connectivity issues. The procedure below works if you have DSL only, if you have Verizon's equivalent to U-Verse i.e. telephony, internet, TV all from the same box--then it may not.

Basic Steps:

1. Unplug the power from the router and the modem.

2. After about a minute, re-connect the modem. Give it time to establish the IP connection, say thirty seconds.

3. Re-connect the power to the router.

Test to see if your connection has improved.
Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] dns and smt errors

The problem is getting more interesting. I brought up my email and it stated that the verizon server can not be located, I ran the trouble shooter and was told that the smt server is not responding. a minute later my email came up and the trouble shooter reported that there is no problems. Went to IE. the third link I received the page can not be displayed and the trouble shooter reported dns server not responding. about 2 minutes later the page came up and again the trouble shooter reported no problems. Could this be in my router, it is quite a few years old. About 3 years ago the firmware was updated but they could not guaranty that the update would take. I really do not want to purchase a new router if it is not the problem.
