Hello Lenny,
Considering the age of your current router, a new one is a great idea. It did well to last that long. Hang off on the new cable until it arrives though; there might be one in the box.
BTW, what did you buy?

I just ordered a new modem/router. The old one was purchased in 2003.
The new one should be much faster especially for my wife's lap top. She
is only getting speeds around 2 mb as opposed to the 6 or 7 that I have.
I should be always around 7 or greater. When I had the 1 mb I was over
that speed. The main verizon switching office is about 1,000 feet away
and I am on a line by myself. There was a problem when 911 calls were
reported as coming from my phone. There was a leak or bad connection so
they placed me on a line by myself. I will get a new cable before I
install the new router.
Thanks

Lenny,
I'd replace the cable first then see what happens.
Make sure it's at least CAT 5e. CAT 6 would be better; future proof and
about the same price.

Just received a page not being displayed. this was after about 100

cable.

I did a lot of cleaning on the computer and nothing helped the page not
being displayed problem. Checked all of the cables and still the problem
existed. For a long shot moved the either net cable from position one
in the router to position 3 and have not had the problem in at least 75
links. Prior to this I could not go to more than 3 pages.
