That's a good alternative to mine. However, often when i close tabs I also want to leave Internet Explorer. I do sometimes uise ctrl-w to close individual tabs, if things are going slow or if I mean to get something out of the way. A lot seems to depend on how much you use tabbed browsing as distinct from opening separate browser windows.

I like to have tab browsing turned on, but also like the warning that I'm about to close all tabs (because I often have forgotten that is the case, so when I get the warning it seems easy to me to hit a Control-w and close just
the current tab. HTH

My answer was dealing with the specific control, rather than with the
general turning off of tabbed browsing. (I have tabbed browsing on, but have turned off the warning when closing multiple tabs checkbox. Also the wording is slightly different in Windows7 than in Windows XP, thus the differing instructions on how and which. You might want to have more than one home page, and IE allowwss for that when you have tabbed browsing on. the warning
checkbox is checked by default; but one grows tired of holdup warning
messages when closing IE windows, so I unchecked it.

Hi Patricia,
While in IE, press alt +T for the tools menu, then O for internet
options.
Next, tab until you come to, Tab browsing settings button, and
spacebar
that.
Uncheck the box for tab browsing, and then press enter to close the
dialogue. you are done.
