Dwight,

First, if you have Windows 8, Windows Defender is the anti-virus program known in earlier versions of Windows as Microsoft Security Essentials.

Do not have Norton anti-virus and Windows Defender running simultaneously; two anti-virus programs aren't supposed to try to compete with each other. Use one or the other.

In earlier versions of Windows, Windows Defender was an antimalware program, not an anti-virus program. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dwight Johnson" <[email protected]>

Yes, I got that but it says defender and norton are both off. I try to turn them on but it says they are still off.

in windows 7 in actions if you open it you'll get security, if you click
on that jaws will announce the securities you have such as spyware, anti
virus. I'm not sure if it is the same in windows 8 but give it a try!

I just went through the control panel, defender is not listed, is it
supposed to be? Or what am I supposed to find there?

:I have a new HP 64 bit laptop with Jaws 14 and windows 8 with windows
defender. How do I know it is running? I can't find a menu for defender or
settings or anything but the program is listed in the programs files.
