Hi Dwight, since you have Windows Defender, and you're running Windows 8,
you can uninstall Norton, but make sure you're only uninstalling the
anti-virus, or Internet Security, as they do have other products such as PC
Anywhere and Ghost, which makes a back-up of your system.
Those you may want to keep.
As for seeing it in the system tray, have you checked your notification
settings?
Go into the Start Menu and type in the term, "Change Notification Settings"
and the first thing that should pop up will be the Notification settings.
