Hi Damien,

If you are running Internet Explorer 9 on your windows 7 computer, you can
uninstall it and Internet Explorer 8 will become your default browser. Here
is how to do that:
1. Press the windows key to open the start menu search box then type the
following and press enter:
View installed updates

2. Wait about 30 seconds or 1 minute for all info related to installed
updates has been loaded. when using Jaws, when this process finishes, you
will hear "100%."

3. Down arrow through list of results, locate "Windows Internet Explorer 9,"
Press Shift + F10 or Windows applications key, then down arrow to
"uninstall" and press enter.
Note: to find this item quickly in this list you can press letter W until
you locate Windows Internet Explorer 9.

4. Restart your computer if prompted to do so.

5. When your computer restarts press your Internet Explorer hotkey or launch
it via Start menu search box.

6. If you are asked to setup initial Internet Explorer 8 preferences then do
so. After you have completed the setup process, launch Internet Explorer and
press Alt + H for the help menu then press letter A for about and use your
Jaws cursor to read the screen. If you have successfully uninstalled
Internet Explorer 9 this dialogue will confirm this fact and the dialogue
will state that you are now using Internet Explorer 8. Press tab and you may
come across a checkbox which you can check in order to prevent IE from
automatically installing a newer version of itself.

7. If your Windows Updates are set to "automatic," don't forget to go back
into the Windows Updates dialogue and hide the INTERNET EXPLORER 9 update so
it doesn't install once again. You can hide the Internet Explorer 9 update
by pressing Windows applications key or Shift F10 then down arrowing and
pressing enter on the item which will hide the update.

This procedure should work.

Joseph

back from ie9 to ie8 which was on my machine when I started using windows 7?

Damien.

It keeps me from playing in traffic most of the time.

I do this as a hobby, so long as I enjoy it and the basement doesn't flood,
those files uploaded at around 125 MB. I could post the links in the main
index in a few seconds but first it would be of interest to me to know if
anybody has taken advantage of my earlier post. I admit finding something to
download on Microsoft can be a lesson in self control providing you don't
own a mina bird.

David, I am not asking for you to go to that trouble. I have installed
quite a few IE updates on other computers but but I haven't run into this
problem before. I will try a direct install and see how that goes.

You are correct in that there is no download link for any version of IE on
the server. I suppose I could put links up there for those programs but I
would have to get them first.

I am using W7, Latest jaws and IE8 browser and trying to install IE9 from
windows updates. I have tried to install IE9 many times from the windows
updates but it always locks up my computer. It seems to try installing IE9
and IE10 at the same time and locks up my computer everytime. Does anyone
have a direct download for IE9 that you could pass on to me? I would
appreciate it very much. I looked over the jaws-users home site but
couldn't find anything there. Thanks much,
