This has been an interesting thread and I myself have contributed to it, but
it is time to move on as it is more about hardware than software. 

The good thing is that I don't believe JAWS 15 places any larger demand on
system resources, therefore lap tops on battery power should not be effected
to a greater degree than in the past.

I back up my laptop and desktop with a UPS, uninterrupted power supply for
these un-known power drops.
I picked one up at Best  Buy.
And don't forget to plug in the speakers.

I wish.  I've never known one to go over three and still be much more than
something to prevent a crash during a power blink.
