Hello John,

Quite often, this kind of problem is due to an add-in not working right with
Outlook. You might want to start Outlook in safe mode to find out if it starts
faster. In Windows 7 press the Windows key and type in Outlook.EXE /safe to
open Outlook without toolbar customizations, reading pane and add-ins. If the
program opens faster then you might check your add-ins. When in Outlook use
Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go to the options. In the categories list press A
until you find the add-ins choice. Use tab key and find the Manage combo box.
Select COM add-ins from the list and tab to the Go button. Press spacebar on
the Go button. Check the list of add-ins to see if there is something that
might be causing the problem. For example, I have had the NATSpeak add-in for
Naturally Speaking cause problems in the past. You can disable add-ins and try
opening the program again. It is a matter of disabling add-ins and ruling them
out if Outlook starts the same after disabling them.

Another thing you can try is the SCANPST program. I don’t have Windows 7 here
to try it but I think you can just type scanpst.exe in the Windows start menu
search box and press enter when it appears. The program will guide you through
the process for it to search for and repair problems with your PST file. You
will need to browse to the PST file you want checked after activating the
ScanPST program. Otherwise, the ScanPST.EXE file can be found in folder:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14

For 32-bit Windows or ,

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14 if you have a 64-bit Windows
system. Press S until you find the ScanPST.EXE file and press enter on it to
start the repair process. You will need to have hidden folders showing.

I hope one of these things work for you.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] ODD PROBLEM WITH OUTLOOK 2010

I'm using Windows 7 Professional, Office 2010 Home & Business and Jaws 15,
latest build.

I hadn't used this computer for quite a while. Now, when I try to open
Outlook 2010, it takes a very long time, occasionally as much as 2 minutes.

This is not a common occurrence on this machine. What could cause Outlook
2010 to slow down like that in the Startup?

Here's what I have already tried.

I went in and deleted all unnecessary files from the folders.

I can't find any kind of diagnosing tools in the system but maybe I'm
missing something.

Will it be necessary to re-install this program?

If so, do I have to re-install the entire Home & Business 2010 or just the
Outlook program, itself?

Any help would be welcome.
