In addition to what I mentioned in my earlier message, Chris Hill pointed
out that MSSE replaced Windows Defender as well as becoming an antivirus
program in Windows 7. If I remember correctly, if you install MSSE in
Windows 7 it turns off Windows Defender. However, if you are using Avast,
AVG or some other antivirus program in Windows 7 then you can use Windows
Defender as an antispyware application. It's kind of strange but in Windows
7 Microsoft made MSSE their antivirus and antispyware program and turned off
Windows Defender when MSSE gets installed, but in Windows 8 they chose
Windows Defender for their antivirus protection.

The Windows Defender program in Windows 7 is an antispyware program. You
should use an antispyware program in addition to your antivirus program in
Windows 7. It doesn't hurt to have more than one antispyware program
running at the same time. If you are using Malware Bytes, Super Antispyware
or some other antispyware program, using Windows Defender in Windows 7 is a
matter of preference. It might be a good idea to use it as a second
antispyware application and it should not clash with your antivirus or other
antispyware program. In Windows 8 the Windows Defender program replaced MSE
as an antivirus program and should not be used with any other antivirus
program in Windows 8. In Windows 8 you can still use other antispyware
programs while using Windows Defender but not other antivirus programs.

windows defender does not appear in the programs list in programs and
features if you want to check to see if its on your computer go to
control
panels, actions open actions and view installed securities it should list
defender as either on or off.

I looked on my Win 7 64bit pc and I do not see Windows Defender in the
program list. So I am assuming that Window Defender does not come on all
Win 7 pc's.

It comes on all windows 7 machines. It may or may not be turned on in
security center. Defender is more malware than viruses.
