Brian,

Thanks. I am running Windows 7 and have the pro version of malware
bytes installed. So from what you are saying, I should just leave well
enough alone and leave defender off, correct?

Al

Hello Al,

In Windows 7, Windows Defender is an antispyware program and can be
used in conjunction with MSE and Malware Bytes. Although, if you are
running Malware Bytes you likely don't need to have Windows Defender
active. In Windows 8, Windows Defender replaced MSE and is an
antivirus and antispyware program. In Windows 8, it should not be
used in conjunction with another antivirus program but can be used in
conjunction with Malware Bytes or other antispyware applications.
Also, in Windows 8, Windows Defender needs to be turned on. If
another antivirus program is on a system then it should be
uninstalled before using Windows Defender in Windows 8.

Take care.

Or, just type it in search and it will take you directly there. Should
this be used in conjunction with MSE and/or malware bytes?

windows defender does not appear in the programs list in programs and
features if you want to check to see if its on your computer go to
control panels, actions open actions and view installed securities it
should list defender as either on or off.

I looked on my Win 7 64bit pc and I do not see Windows Defender in the
program list. So I am assuming that Window Defender does not come on
all Win 7 pc's.
Can anyone tell me if this is true or not.

Ed

It comes on all windows 7 machines. It may or may not be turned on in
security center. Defender is more malware than viruses.
