Well you have already taken the first step which was to ask for help in the matter, good man. What you do is open up windows explorer by hitting the windows key and at the same time the letter E. Then go to the tools menu and select options. Control tab once. Then tab one time. Next arrow down to where it says something about file extension and I forget the exact wording off hand and hit the spacebar to turn it on.
Then tab to the apply button and hit it. Then you should land on a button that says apply this to all folders of this type or something like that and hit enter on it as well. Then tab to the OK button and hit enter on it. Life should be good from then on. Let me know how it works out for your friend.
