In my personal opinion, the Windows 8 start screen is almost completely
useless to a blind user. The Windows7 start menu is many orders of magnitude
much more useful to both sighted and blind Windows users. It is for this
reason among others that I, the early Win8 adopter, I dumped Win8 and
returned to Windows7.

With that said, I had your similar problem, and my solution on Win8 was to
create a folder on the desktop and attach a hotkey to quickly open the
folder. Within that folder was a shortcut to all the former "Accessories"
items as well as shortcuts to other commonly used Windows features. I used
first letter navigation to quickly find what I wanted to launch.

I'll be very interested to read solutions posed by others. <Smile>.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] organizing computer

I have windows 8.1 and I’m using jaws 15. when I got my computerin the
start menu usually there is an accessories folder with calculator, notepad,
paint etc. but on my computer I have no accessories folder, the calculator
is in the start menu itself. anyone know how I can create an accessories
folder myself to remove some clutter in the start menu and organize.
Email is golden!!!
