Hi Mario,
I want to be clear here, we are talking about the "startup" tab, which lists
programs, and not the "Services" tab, which lists the running services.

Over the years I have found that aside from the items I mentioned in my
earlier post,
everything else is a matter of preference.
In Windows 98 I found that 2 items for my HP scanner had to be checked in
order for OpenBook to identify it,
but that was only true of the HP, other brands didn't require that.
It is not uncommon for any of my systems to have no more than 2 items
checked in the startup tab.
As far as services go, these will vary from system to system, depending on
the user's needs.
I have seen as many as 180 services listed in Windows, but rarely are all
running, or enabled for that matter.
There are resources on the internet for lists of services that can be safely
disabled,
for each version of Windows.
I think black viper.com is one of them.

HTH,
Rick Justice

and if tomorrow never comes, problem solved!

Hi Holjer,
Those do not need to load at startup.
Typically, the only programs that need to load when Windows boots are your
security software, Jaws and in rare occasions,
some audio.
Anything past that is just robbing your system of resources.
A good rule-of-thumb islaunch the software when you are ready to use it,
and close it when you are finished.

If you are talking about the start up area, then, yes if you have jaws set
