When you open a pdf image page or document in Adobe Reader, you'll hear JAWS say: "Alert! Empty document." In the event that the file contains both text pages and image pages, the text pages will be read but the image pages will display the Alert as above. Then, if you wanna read those image pages, import them from another OCR program or use JAWS16's document OCR feature. I've found it to be reasonably accurate. poor pdf's = poor OCR!

Most sighted people just don't get that there's a difference between pdf images of text and pdf text itself. And sometimes, people only have paper copies of documents which they must somehow convert to pdf's: so they scan and then convert them as they go.

well, I'm sure that's right, but since I don't scan, 12 is good. I
copy/paste what pdf i open, to a word document, and save that

Not to the same extent. In previous versions you could only *preview*
PDF images. Now, with 16, if the pdf is all images, they can be
scanned
and, often, recognized well.

One big advantage to JAWS 16 is that JAWS will now scan and read PDF
documents. Andy

is there that much difference in the jaws versions, that make jumping
from one version to the next needed?
