Hi

Not only installing JAWS would be difficult, but I assume you have to go
through the Windows setup screens first. If there was a keyboard attached
to the tablet, you could start Narrator to install JAWS by pressing
WindowsKey+r for the run dialog and typing Narrator and pressing enter. I
would have the JAWS installation file on a SD card or USB drive instead of
downloading it onto the tablet. For the Windows setup screens for Windows
7, I saw that you could open the Ease of Access center at the first setup
screen and Narrator would read the choices as you tabbed through the dialog.
So if you tabbed to Narrator and press enter Narrator would be running for
the whole setup. So hopefully, this would also work in Windows 8.1 for the
setup screens. I think I used WindowsKey+u to open the Ease of Access
Center for the Windows setup screens, but I'm not real sure. However, if
there's no keyboard attached, I don't believe it could be done without
sight. I saw some instructions for starting Narrator without a keyboard, but
they required you to swipe in a particular spot and then touch a certain
charm bar. You have to install an ILM key on the tablet. But you don't
have to do that until you start JAWS after it is installed, so there would
be speech.

Thank you for a more in-depth description of the process. Imagine me
wondering how I would navigate to a web page, download a file to give my
tablet speech without having any in the first place. If I could do that
myself then you folks would be looking for another JAWS list because it
would be of no further use to me.

So my thoughts that there would be no way at all a blind person could do it
themselves is basicly confirmed. I figure you have to place an ILM key on it
as well, he stated hoping for confirmation on that as well.

Hello, someone else already described an option. Someone sighted,
helped me do it. I did download the program and put the file on a SD card
and hooked it up to the tablet and installed through this process.
You might also turn off the user account settings, where you have to give
permission to install new programs. My friend found where to do this and he
did it. I do not recall how he did it.

Would you mind describing the procedure for installing JAWS on a tablet. I
imagine it is something I could figure out, but since the wheel has already
been invented.

I recently purchased a windows 8.1 tablet and installed jaws 16 on it.

I have not used it much, so I still know very little. I did find an utility
that provides a start menu option: it is called "istartmenu." It is either
free or shareware. It is accessible hth

Hi first I do use windows 8.1.1 and I find two things that help me and yes I
use JAWS 16.

One first using the desk top I have put the programs on it that I use all
the time.

Two I have put the most important ones on the task bar and use windows 1 up
to windows 9 to get the ones and I put them in order of importants this
makes it easy.

I always have email in one and getting my documents there was hard but it is
in two and then in three is Firefox and on and on.

I love that I can open them in anywhere I am so in email I can open new word
document or go anywhere else and go back by hitting email one again or use
alt tab.

I put on desk top things that are only used less often.

I find that tab or shift tab is very helpful in some areas.

If you have any questions ask for information and I will try to answer. One
more thing that I use a lot is application key or on lap top computer shift
f10. This is one of the areas you will find things to help you.

If one, or some of you, who have windows 8.1 could give me some tips and
tricks on how to use windows 8.1 with jaws 16, I would really appreciate it.
I am a W7 computer user now, and I want windows 8.1 to be as easy to use as
possible. You can write me off list, at, [email protected], or, post here,
but I am thinking about all the traffic we get on this list, so anything any
of you can do to ease the transition, will be really appreciated. Smile.
thanks. Jim
