Sometimes a low-tech less complicated solution works very nicely. My phone book is a text file that I open with Notepad. Depending on what computer I am using, depends on how I use this method.
On one computer I just have a desktop shortcut that launches Notepad and loads the text file with the phone number information I capture. Searching is easy, because it is not dependent on fields. I assigned the shortcut key control+alt+P. The second option is on a PC where I keep track of seldom used information. Here too I use Notepad. Under the Documents folder I put a folder called Lists. Here there are a few text files that are dependent on a topic. One is my phone list of course and the others are a variety of items like supplier information and so on. The shortcut on that desktop instead of loading a specific file, it calls up Windows Explorer putting me in my Lists folder. Now I can arrow up and down and when I land on the text file I want, I press enter and Notepad calls it up nicely. And to keep things straight in my head the shortcut I assigned is control+alt+L. Now if your requirements are more complex, then this isn't the solution for you.
