Alan and anyone else interested (maybe this one can go up in the
JAWS-users programs section, if it's not already), here's another handy
free utility to check out. I use the JAWS cursor to click on tabs and
read the pages:
CPU-Z is a freeware that gathers information on some of the main devices
of your system : Processor name and number, codename, process, package,
cache levels, etc.

Michael,
Never tried this one. In the past, some folks have suggested Belarc advisor. I
ran this on a Win 7 machine but can't comment on how/if it works on Win 8.1 as
I only have that on a Dell Pro tablet and am less than impressed with it. Much
prefer Win 7. Anyway, just thought I'd throw that suggestion in the hopper.
Best,
Al

There is a utility called Speccy, from the makers of C Cleaner that will do
this for you. However, when you install the program onto a computer, it will
also install Google Chrome and the Google Tool Bar as well without warning.
There is an option to run the program as a portable application from a USB
flash drive, but I have never used the thing in this manner. You can just do an
internet search for the utility and select the result from Piriform, the
manufacturer of the product. That's the only one that I personally know about.

Is there a utility that will display the ram, cpu type and speed and video card
information.
My grandson is a gamer. He wants to purchase a few games and is not sure of his
computer’s configuration. I know it is about 3 years old and an HP tower. I
imagine that there would be slots for a new video card. It must be
15 years since I had my hands inside a computer. I do not know what video cards
are out there now.
