You know, I get the silent treatment sometimes with 13, more often than I'd like. I don't remember getting that for years until a couple of years ago. It makes me wonder if the net is so complex that JAWS just stumbles. It's frustrating to me, because without JAWS, nothing means anything to me, and I just guess at turning the thing off, keep hitting F4, Right Arrow and Enter.

GIFT (God is forever true),

Carolyn

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 16 frequently goes silent

Recently I began consistently using jaws 16 and I'm seeing some odd
behavior which I wonder if anyone can confirm.

During remote sessions using VPN, jaws 16 frequently goes absolutely
silent for minutes at a time. Occasionally speech will return if I
wait long enough, but often I have to reboot the computer before I am
able to regain speech.

This same behavior would sometimes occur with older versions of jaws
(prior to jaws 15), but then it seemed to be fixed.

I work from home several days a week, signed on to my desktop at work
and these frequent silences are very disruptive, not to mention the
reboots. Has anyone else seen this behavior with jaws 16? I intended
to report it to FS, but I'm not sure even how to explain it since it
seems to happen randomly without regard to what application I may be
using at the time.

Thanks,
Kim
