Normally they are located just above the screen of your monitor. 

If you were to tab over after you land on the microphone control you would
see a properties button. I figure you're smart enough to take it from there.

what do I do with that info though?
it was the only microphone in the list, is there some settings  to make it
work? not even sure where it's located on my laptop anyways, how far a range
do they have?

    In the search box type manage audio devices. Once there control tab one
    time. That should land you where you need to go.
