Hi Carolyn, In Word the CTRL with page down or CTRL with page up is not just to move page by page. If you use the Go To box for example to go to a bookmark, once you go to the bookmark and press escape to dismiss the box the CTRL page down goes to the next bookmark. If you do a find for a word (and find it) after pressing escape the CTRL page down goes to the next occurrence of the word. If you use the Go To box and go to a footnote, after pressing escape to dismiss the box the CTRL with page down goes to the next footnote. The CTRL with page up goes to the previous one. I think some of the confusion might be when I talked about moving between the dialog box and document, which is a method I don't use. If you are just finding a string of text or going to something like a bookmark then once you find it the easier method is to press escape and use CTRL with page down to go to the next occurrence of it.
If you want to use CTRL with page down to move down page by page after using those keystrokes to find something then use CTRL with G and in the Go To box type a P followed by the page number you want to go to and press enter key. Press escape and you should be on the page you specified. The CTRL with page down or CTRL with page up keystrokes will then be used for moving page by page. Take care.
