Oh thanks. Someone might have mentioned this once before. That was before I started saving valuable information like this directly over to Microsoft Word Documents.

Hi Carolyn,

In Word the CTRL with page down or CTRL with page up is not just to move
page by page. If you use the Go To box for example to go to a bookmark,
once you go to the bookmark and press escape to dismiss the box the CTRL
page down goes to the next bookmark. If you do a find for a word (and find it) after pressing escape the CTRL page down goes to the next occurrence of
the word. If you use the Go To box and go to a footnote, after pressing
escape to dismiss the box the CTRL with page down goes to the next footnote.
The CTRL with page up goes to the previous one. I think some of the
confusion might be when I talked about moving between the dialog box and
document, which is a method I don't use. If you are just finding a string
of text or going to something like a bookmark then once you find it the
easier method is to press escape and use CTRL with page down to go to the
next occurrence of it.

If you want to use CTRL with page down to move down page by page after using those keystrokes to find something then use CTRL with G and in the Go To box type a P followed by the page number you want to go to and press enter key.
Press escape and you should be on the page you specified. The CTRL with
page down or CTRL with page up keystrokes will then be used for moving page
by page.

Take care.

OK thanks, that next and previous occurrence is annoying when going from
page to page after searching or searching and replacing.

Hello Carolyn,

Yes, pressing escape key closes the dialog box.

Take care.

Maybe my problem with Find or Find and Replace is closing the thing, since

I
thought Escape was all that was needed. What does one do to close Find or
Find and Replace? Thanks.

Hi Brian,
I know somewhat how the find & replace works.

I was trying to follow what you were trying to explain and it seem
confusing, especially the alt + delete to find the next occurrence?.
After you run it once, you can go back and change the words around to
find

&
replace again.
Press escape anytime, you should return back to the doc,
Alt + tab and you can return back to the find & replace, until you close
it.
You have to pay attension to the options as you tab.

Hello Cuong,

If you are just finding a word and not replacing it then you can use
shift
with F6 to move to the document pane, use Alt with delete key to get your
position, and then use F6 to move back to the navigation pane. Press
spacebar on the Find Next button, use shift key with F6 and read the
position with Alt and delete. You don't have to keep jumping between the
panes using shift with F6 to move to the document and F6 to move back to
the
navigation pane. Once you find an occurrence of what you are finding and
move to the document pane you can just use CTRL with page down to find
the
next occurrence or CTRL with page up to find a previous occurrence and
check
position with the Alt and delete key.

If you are wanting to use "replace" option but not the "replace all"
choice
then you first use CTRL with H to move to the page of the dialog where
you
can do replacements. It is a good idea to start at the top of the
document
first. After typing in what you want to find and what you want it
replaced
with you can use Alt with F to activate the Find Next button. Press
escape,
use Alt+Delete to get position, and then use CTRL with H again and use
the
Alt+R to do the replacing. You can then use escape key, find position
using
alt with delete, use CTRL with H followed by Alt with R to replace it or
alt
with F to find the next occurrence.

In Word 2013 there doesn't seem to be a way to switch between the
navigation
pane and the document pane the say you can if just finding something.
Also,
in the dialog box the Alt+delete only gives pixel position for the
control
in focus so you have to be in the navigation pane to get the position of
something using Alt key with delete key.

Take care.
