I just tried it, hit Insert J, arrow up once, JAWS said, "exit." I did not
want to, so did not try it from there. Like my husband says, "usually there
is more than one way to do stuff on a computer." I didn't think about that
applying with JAWS.

I assume your not running jaws in the system tray?
If i hit insert+J i am placed on the Jaws menu.

You can exit from the jaws option menu.
Insert + F4, then spacebar is the recommended key stroke.
