End of support for older versions of IE means that MS will no longer provide security patches and updates for these browsers, which could nake them more vulnerable to hacking and malware attacks. But doomsayers predicted dire consequences for XP users if they did not upgrade to Windows 7 or later after support for XP ended in April 2014, but these fears were apparently overblown. Even after support for IE 10 ends in January, you should still be able to continue using it as long as you follow safe web browsing practices. You should certainly have no problem using it to download books from the BARD site, if that is what you are concerned about. As long as you avoid suspicious web sites or sites of dubious nature, you should be okay. But if you are concerned about security and do not want to upgrade to IE 11 and JAWS 16 or 17, then you may want to consider using Firefox as an alternative.

Would someone explain to me what the effect on us will be when they stop
supporting I E 10? I'm using Word 2003 and Outlook 2003 which aren't
supported, and I have no problem. I'm 78 and have difficulty learning all
these new tech upgrades. What happens if I leave things as they are? Jaws
13, Magic 11, I E 10, and office 2003? And, by the way, is there a magic
email list?

Miriam

Hi,
I been using IE 11 for 3 years and no problems, Even though this tread was
covered about a year ago here on jaws users and about the whole gang were
still on IE 8, 9, 10.

And everytime, I mention to move to IE11, I got back replies I thought I
wasted my time with that tread,

Anyways Adios!
Jorge

I thought, I might as well add my 3 cents, since this going to be a dead
tread soon,

Jorge

Hello Gang:
I got a refurbished Windows 7 machine last year to replace an xp. Two
people have tried to upgrade to something higher than IE 9. Neither was
successful.
One of those techs was at the MS Accessibility desk. They got IE 11, but it
was unuseable, as in could not use the bank web site plus others.
I called MS back to roll it back to IE 9. Now, I have no problems.
Not sure what I am going to do with this news!
Neil

Microsoft recently announced that it will end support for older versions of
Internet Explorer on Jan. 12, 2016, less than three months from now, so if
you are running Windows 7 or later as most of us are, you will have to
upgrade to IE 11 in order to continue receiving security updates and
patches. Beginning on that date, IE 10 and earlier will no longer be
supported for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. So now may be a good time to
upgrade to IE 11 if you have not already done so, or consider switching to
Firefox full time if you are having trouble with IE 11. Click below for
