I'm with Jim on this one.

I have to acknowledge that Windows 10 has boosted the performance of my 7 year-old clunker quite nicely. That's not to say there aren't bugs with Jaws and Windows 10, but as with previous versions of Jaws and Windows, we have to simply make due with what we have, and find alternative ways of doing what we want until Freedom Scientific comes around with an update that fixes the problem.

Having said that Gerald, where are you seeing all the complaints from current Jaws users grieving about upgrading to Windows 10. I've heard nothing but positive remarks about Windows 10, and though some of it's features are unwelcome, such as no say over what updates to install, or some other things I haven't quite gotten the hang of yet, I've seen all the positives Windows 10 has to offer.

In Gerald's favour though, I have to admit the parallels to various high tech horror movies where computers all over the world are forced to install a certain operating system, only to have the operating system launch nuclear warheads, killing off half the population of the world, then using the video screens, enslaving the rest of the population to keep it's machines running, meanwhile, a small but dauntless band of computer users and hackers, mostly blind because they couldn't see the video screens, use Jaws to undermine the operating system and bringing it down.

I mean, how many horror movies have we seen like this? LOL.

Anyway, I don't think you have a right to complain about something, without having tried the something you're complaining about Gerald, otherwise you become one of those religious televangelists who condemn shows and movies without actually having watched the shows or movies they're condemning.

Hi Gerald,
You are a perfect example of Why are blind people panicking, wining,
warning, stressing out, being
anguished, and over all complaining about something they have not tried yet.
No one is forcing you to upgrade to w-10!
But some day when you upgrade, you will be glad you did.
In the mean time, all these warning so called emails are a waist of time to
read.
They do no good, they do not edify the Blind user of Jaws.
They ask, or answer, no questions.
So, again, I ask, What is your point of this kind of an email?
At least I try to help people learn a new system, instead of trying to
discourage them from trying it like you.
So, come on, can't you be positive, is your computer life with Jaws that
bad?

Is that so? Microsoft has a special, dedicated hot line just for JAWS users
of Windows 10? Please provide this number, if you don't mind. I know they
have an accessibility hot line, but I was not aware that they also have
another hot line just for JAWS users. And if Windows 10 is so wonderful,
why are so many users on other lists complaining about it and inquiring
about how to roll back to Windows 7? And if I attempt to install Windows 10
and screw up my computer in the process , MS will send a technician to my
home to fix it if I explain to them that I am blind and do not have sighted
help on hand?

Gerald

Hi Kinson,
If you love w-7, you will love w-10.
No need to worry or to give out warnings, about Microsoft wanting people to
upgrade to w-10.
this is an advantage to all computer users of w-10.
Sense Microsoft has made w-10 universally freely available for desktops,
laptops, tablets, and phones and wireless devices of all sorts.
They can focus on making this universal w-10 operating system better for all
users.
So, everyone benefits, we the users of assistive technology, do not have to
worry about w-10 either.
Microsoft offers us the free, Microsoft support technical line, for the
users of the Jaws screen reader.
So, we get a free upgrade to w-10, and free technical assistance with w-10.
What a deal!
so, Why are blind people panicking, wining, warning, stressing out, being
anguished, and over all complaining about something they have not tried yet.
Something to talk about, I guess...
I have used it now for 3 months, and I personally love it.
I would not go back to any previous system if given the chance to.
Give it a shot, and I am sure you will like it as well.
Microsoft is here to help you if you have any issues.
They are very kind, and take their time with you solving your problem...
With the built in Narrator, screen reader, if Jaws goes down for any reason,
you can navigate and use your whole computer with Narrator, great back up
screen reader.

I was just curious as this just hit me.
So if they force us to upgrade, there is no point me purchasing a windows 7
laptop?
I don't know why I have such the huge crush on windows 7 but I was planning
on getting a back up laptop for when this hits the dust seeing as I think I
had it for 3 years now.

There's also another setting from what you mentioned here, in the settings
of window's update that I have unchecked, it's the one where microsoft
recommends updates and new products or something like that.
I already had my updates set to not be automatic, but the next choice down,
to be downloaded, but I choose to install or not.
I'm reconsidering to switch it to the thrid choice, which allows for
checking of updates, but nothing is downloaded until you choose to download
and install.

from reading the article, yeah, if you have windows updates set to
automatic and you checked the box to install recommended updates also.
