Hi Mike,
I used those steps to change IEon IE9 and IE11. If you have Adobe Reader on
your pc you should have Adobe Reader PDF in the tree list on the manage
add-ons screen. Also if you have Adobe Reader link helper you need to
disable both of them. Then change the filter comb box to "All Aadd-on" then
tab to ok. If you do not see Adobe Reader in your tree list make sure when
you first bring up the Manage add on screen that it says "toolbars and
extensions." If it does not then arrow up or down until you hear "toolbars
and extensions." Then when you hear that tab and change the filter box to
"All add-on" then tab I think once to the tree view and look for Adobe
Reader PDF and Adobe Reader link helper and disable both of them. Thentab to
ok button.
I hope that helps.
Ed

Hi Ed,

Is this for any IE version in particular? In IE 10 I don't show anything
for Adobe in All Add-ons hence the question for if these steps are for a
specific version of IE. Thank you very much, definitely a keeper.
Take care.
Mike

Hi Group,
Listed below is what I did to get both my W7 pc's to read PDF files. If you
follow the instructions below and you are in IE and you click on a PDF file
it will open in a new window and JAWS will read it. When you are done you
can just hit Alt+f4 and it will close the PDF file and you will be back in
IE on the PDF link you just click on. You Have to change some things in IE
and also in Adobe Reader. Here is the instructions below.

How to make Adobe Reader load in its own Window?
1. Open IE
2. Press Alt+t then press A to open manage add-ons.
3. JAWs should say "toolbars and extensions" if it does not arrow down
or up until it does.
4. Then tab once and you will hear "filter combo box"
5. Arrow up once to "all add-ons" then tab once
6. Scroll down to Adobe Reader PDF
7. If it is enabled press spacebar to highlight Adobe Reader PDF
8. Press application key and then press enter to disabled Adobe Reader
PDF
9. Arrow up or down and if you hear Adobe PDF link helper. Press the
application key and disable it.
10. Tab to Close
Now you have to make some changes in Adobe Reader. See instruction's below.
Recommended Adobe Settings
1. Open Adobe.
2. Select "Edit", "Preferences".
3. In the "Documents" category, uncheck "Show each document in its own
window" (Adobe 8 only, not Adobe 7 or Adobe 9).
4. In the "3D & Multimedia" category, under the "Preferred Renderer",
select "Software" instead of "DirectX". Also, uncheck "Enable hardware
rendering for legacy video cards...".
5. In the "Accessibility" category, select "Always use Zoom Setting"
100%.
6. For Adobe 9 and 10, in the "Internet" category, uncheck "Display PDF
in browser".
7. In the "Reading" category, uncheck "Confirm before tagging
documents".
8. In the "Reading" category, for "Page vs. Document" select "For large
documents, only read the currently visible pages."
9. In the "Reading" category, for "Minimum number of pages in a large
document", make the number 2.
10. For Adobe Reader 10, in the "General" category, uncheck "Enable
Protected Mode at startup".
11. For Adobe 11, in the "Security (Enhanced)" category, uncheck "Enable
Protected Mode at startup".
12. For Adobe Acrobat 11, in the "Security (Enhanced)" category, for
Protected View select the option or radio button for Off.
13. Click OK.
14. Restart Adobe and Jaws and Zoomtest if you use it.
Now when you open a PDF file in IE, Adobe Reader should open up in a new
window. When you are done reading the PDF file just hit alt+f4 and you
should be right back in IE on the link of the PDF file.
