Yes, I get that far too- but then StartPage is not listed on the official Internet Explorer Add-on Gallery page and I don't see any edit field to add it even if you knew what exactly to put there. The links there do not show addresses so am not even sure of the format or whatever.
Maybe what I have now is all there is: 1) I can always do a control-T to launch a new search; and 2) StartPage does show up in the drop down menu under control-E. I'm at a loss re why it does not show up as an add-on, but perhaps there is not really an advantage to the user for it to be an add-on. It is confounding and confoundable to say the least ;) Cher Cher -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Mike B Sent: Tuesday, April 19, 2016 7:05 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Bulk] Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Re: [Bulk] Follow-up to Re: [Bulk]Re:[Bulk] Re: change my search engine Hi Cher & Rick, The following was running Windows 7. This might help but, who knows: What I did was put, www.startpage.com Into the, Run dialogue, & press enter. I then started at the top of the page & navigated by heading to, Heading Level 2, Put StartPage to work for you Now I started arrowing down until I got to, Add StartPage to your browser, Arrow down to, Link More, & press enter. & it took me here: Add to IE You can now easily add StartPage to your list of Internet Explorer 7+ (IE7+) search providers. Please use the following url from the official Internet Explorer Add-on Gallery, to download and install the plugin for IE 9+. Now arrow down to a link that's supposed to take you to the plug-in. There's a link that I clicked on here but, hopefully y'all will have more luck with it. Take care. Mike This email was sent from my iBarstool. However, I was able to add it on both my Win7 & Win10 systems but it was no straight-forward task. It seems like it was pot-luck, I will have to visit the site again to see if I can get anything to happen consistently. Ican tell you this, the first link on the page that says add to your browser didn't work for me either, but I ended up coming across a link at some point that said, click here to add to your browser. If someone doesn't come up with a good solution in the meantime, I will let you know what I find out. Wow, what a chore. (smile) HTH, Rick Justice Tomorrow's another day, another way! and if tomorrow never comes, problem solved! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cher Bosch" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 19, 2016 2:38 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Re: [Bulk] Follow-up to Re: [Bulk] Re:[Bulk] Re: change my search engine Oops though- I see that StartPage still does not show up under IE's Tools/Manage Add-ons/Search Providers... So, I'm reverting to my former conclusion that it cannot be added to IE11, only to Edge. It's enough to make me crazy ;) Cher -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Cher Bosch Sent: Tuesday, April 19, 2016 2:13 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Bulk] Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Follow-up to Re: [Bulk] Re: [Bulk] Re: change my search engine Follow-up: Just re-checked- and Control-E does show StartPage in the list, but does not look any different than their home page. Perhaps my expectations are off here- thought some differences would be detectable. Pardon me if I'm having a brain derailment here :) Cher -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Cher Bosch Sent: Tuesday, April 19, 2016 1:51 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Bulk] Followup to Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Re: [Bulk] Re: change my search engine I had only 2 listed and I understand that you can't delete your default. When I deleted the second one, it just disappeared but without an edit field or an 'add' button or anything helpful. Also, on the IE Search Provider page, names are used rather than URLs- Start Page is not listed and I cannot see how to add an unlisted one or what I should type to make it happen. Start Page has a link which says " Add to IE " which has not done anything on this end. I have Start Page as my home page, but Control-E still brings up Google instead. Apparently John Fitzgerald has changed his, but I cannot figure out how. The StartPage which is supposed to tell you how to do this is https://startpage.com/eng/download-startpage-plugin.html?hmb=1 but for Win10 only Edge is listed not IE11- maybe it cannot be done for IE11? Up the proverbial creek- Cher ;) -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of TheHangMan Sent: Sunday, April 17, 2016 11:06 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Bulk] Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Re: change my search engine Hi, Open I E, Press alt T, then O, Follow prompts and delete the search engine you have and type in a new one.
