from what I understand, and I maybe wrong about this, but starting from Windows Vista on up to 10, there is a feature that is native to the OS called the WASAPI loopback feature, and it simulates the "what you hear" or stereo mix that is not found in some sound cards. since most, if not all laptops, lack the stereo mix feature, Virtual Recorder is able to utilize the loopback (simulated) feature that's built in to Windows. hence the name.

again, I could be wrong, and Virtual Recorder still rely on a sound card's stereo mix or rarely also known as the audio mix feature. "what you hear" is the trademarked name for stereo mix by Creative Inc., and found in some of their sound cards.

Just hoping.

Hi,
I want to thank Carlos and all for telling us and producing virtual
recorder. I have it on two computers and I absolutely love it. I
have wanted
something like this for so long to record tutorials, Skype calls, and
streaming as well. Take care.

I want to thank Cuong again for telling us about Virtual Recorder, a
simple,
easy-to-use and free audio recorder that enables us to use
Stereo-Mix or
What-you-hear, a feature that has all but disappear from modern
sound cards.
Virtual Recorder is a totally Jaws-accessible recorder that enables
us to
record tutorials, streams, Skype conversations, etc., created by Carlos
Nazario, seemingly of New York City.

Cuong has recently provided us also with his program to easily
install Jaws
scripts, another very useful tool, but this Virtual Recorder is
something we
have much needed since Win 7. I am a long-time, totally blind Jaws
user,
running an internet radio station, international in scope, so I record
through Skype almost daily; I use Total Recorder to do it, but it is a
rather complex program, not free and hard for some of our presenters
and
collaborators to use, therefore Virtual Recorder is very welcome.
My thanks
to Cuong and to Carlos.

Regards,

Humberto
