I find these abbreviations to be very efficient and useful means of
identifying the control which has focus.

If this functionality is not wanted for any reason, switch to a mode other
than structured mode, for example line mode or speech output mode (M-chord on
Freedom Scientific displays and possibly others). Also, read the braille
topics in the JAWS help documentation.
