Geno,

Mike B came up with the right word, "theme," and he might have the exact answer
to your current question. Meanwhile, here's how to get to "themes" in win7:

Press the Windows key to get to start menu. You will hear, search box edit,
Type, "theme" (without the quotation marks).
You will hear, "Theme," or "Change the theme." Press enter.
You land in the list of themes, which you navigate with the up and down arrows.

I don't know if the theme you first land on is the one your computer is using.
I can only tell you that I'm using standard Windows 7, and when I go to that
list, focus lands on that theme. However, it is the first item, so it could
land there anyway. In your case, if you land on "classic," you'll know that
this is why you can't get to the desktop with alt-tab.

Note that the standard theme is the default unless you change it. You might
want to ask the person who helped you if he selected a theme other than
standard.

Adrian
Ok in this Standard, and Classic/old XP where do I find to check this. It
sounds to me you are saying Standard. MR. David F. Set up my computer when I
purchased it. So not sure. So if you could tell me where to look and what to do
would be great. Geno, Portland, ME.

Hi, Geno. I know you have Win7, 64-bit, as do I. However, do you recall if
you've switched between a standard Windows 7 layout or one that mimics the old
XP layout, which I think Win7 calls "classic"? I ask because I vaguely recall
that the desktop doesn't show up in the classic layout.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Question on Desk-top and Icons

Mike,
I will try to explain a little better. I use to turn on my computer, per normal
each morning. After doing my password and open the Desk-top Icons use to be
easy to go to what-ever Icon I wanted. Or if, example, done working in Medical
documents for my son, Outlook open, Internet open for the Portal.
Of course ALT-Tab back and forth and of course the Desk-top Icons are usable.
Now If I close out for Back up for "My Computer Works," Company or do a VIA
computer to computer work with them, I am closing all programs I have open. It
is at this time there is no jaws use on the Desk-top, for Jaws to function. So
have to do the Windows key and Letter, M-Mike key-stroke and bingo it is there.
I guess in my 66 and soon to be 67 I like the Idea of when closing out of all
the programs, that the Desk-top Icons are "Visible,"
to the Jaws instead of doing Windows key and the Key Letter M as in Mike.
I had this ability till I up-graded Aslogic Defrag and Aslogic Register
cleaner. Now I had "My Computer Works," Company take a look at during my every
two Months tune up with them, yesterday and he said nothing he could see with
the installation in up dating either one. In fact of checking the Aslogic,
register, which he noted some times that program chan change things, he seen
no fault there. I just know I had the Desk-top Icons available to me till I
up-dated both Aslogic programs. Does this make it a little easier what I am
wanting back? Geno, Portland, ME.

Hi Geno,

Are you wanting to be able to Alt + Tab to the desktop instead of using the
Windows key + M keystroke?
Take care.

This is in Portland, ME. The question is some how on this Tower of mine, did a
up-date with Aslogic and managed to mess up the Desk-top Icons, for Jaws to
read them. Unles doing windows and Letter M as in Mike. So this is a Windows 7
machine and running the latest of registered Jaws 17. Any help in getting my
Icons back all the time instead of doing Windows plus M as in Mike would be
greatly appreciated. Need instructions where to go and what to do, thank-you
in advance. Geno

Try pressing Alt+Tab to locate a Windows Security dialog. It is possible you
are being asked if you want to allow the operation. This is not the User
Account dialog (UAC), but I have seen this when first installing JAWS for the
first time on some computers.
