Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Say Cap Instead of Pitch Change
Hi Jim & David,
Try the following, but the steps below aren't complete because of the
various options you get after making changes to a scheme
1. Open the Settings Center with, Jaws / Insert key + 6, on the number row,
& press, control, shift + D, to open Settings Center default all
applications
2. Arrow down to Speech & Sound Schemes, right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to, Modify Schemes...., & press the spacebar to open. Don't
press enter here! Pressing enter will close the Settings Center. Also make
note of what scheme is highlighted as the default scheme.
4. Tab to, edit selected scheme button, & press the spacebar.
5. You should be on the, General Page / tab so, control + tab to the Misc.
page / tab, & tab 1 time into the list of options.
Arrow down to, Cap Speak text Using SingleCapVoice,
tab 1 time to a list of choices, arrow up / down to, Speak Item checked.
Now you'll have to choose what you want to do, modify, save, create new....
by tabbing through the dialogues & making your choices.
It might take some experimentation because you'll need to Apply / Okay a few
times in order to make this the default or whatever you choose to do with
this altered / changed scheme. I'm sorry I can't make these steps more
complete, but my personal choices could be different than your own, so
that's why I said it will take some experimentation.
HTH
Take care.

Yes Mike,
Wow, I made a boo boo. Is there a way to do what the user wants then,
because I would like to know how you do what the user wants.

Hi David,
Jim wants Jaws to say / report the word, Cap or Caps, on capital letters
when navigating character by character instead of changing pitch. Your
Settings Center steps won't work because that setting is for Indicating Caps
when in say all.
The other way mentioned was to change the upper case pitch. That will only
make Jaws report capital letters at the same pitch as it does for lower case
letters. Again, he wants Jaws to report capital letterrs by Jaws saying Cap
J, rather than reporting a capital via a different pitch.
Take care.

Hi,
to get JAWS to say cap before a capital letter, press insert+6 on the
numbers row, and type caps in the search edit box. down arrow once and there
will be a check box that says say caps unchecked. Just press the space bar
to check that, and tab to Okay and press enter. You are doing this in the
settings center. This will work for all applications. Now, if you do not
want JAWS to change pitch for a capital letter, press insert+J to open the
JAWS menu and press enter on voice sub menu, press left arrow to open that
up, and enter on voice adjustment. Now, tab until you hear something about
changing pitch for caps and there will be a certain percentage that this is
set at. Use your arrow keys to change that percentage to 0. Then, just press
enter on okay and get out of the JAWS menu. This should give you exactly
what you want. There will be no pitch change, and JAWS will say the word cap
before an upper case letter. Let us know if this works for you.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Say Cap Instead of Pitch Change
Would someone please give me directions on how to get Jaws 17 to say caps
instead of changing pitch to indicate capital letters when moving
character-by-character? I am having more troubles hearing pitch changes, so
saying cap before a capital letter is really helpful. Thank you much in
advance for this information!
