I'm sorry, modify is a poor choice of words. I meant add abbreviations to
the dictionary manager the way you suggested.
Take care.

How would you modify the dictionary manager? Yes, I use the dictionary to
spell out abbreviations I come across most often, the way you illustrate in
your original post in this thread. But you seem to have something more grand
in mind.

Hi Adrian,

I've been that route, & tried several others. I've come to the conclusion
that what I want to do will only be possible by modifying the default
dictionary manager. I didn't state what different settings I had tried
because I wanted to make sure I didn't overlook anything, & turn my question
into a short story. Thank you very much for your input.
Take care.

Mike,

The potential problem with such a setting would be that many headings and
other text would also be spelled out. The only setting that comes to mind is
in the JAWS settings center that enables reading uppercase letters when JAWS
reads by line, word or character. The default is caps announced only when
reading by character. If you want to change that default, go to the settings
center with (as you know) JAWS key+6 on the number row above the letter,
then type "capitalization" into the edit field. In the results that appear
below, only one option is displayed. Press spacebar to cycle through the
options. Tab to and click on apply and okay.

Hi All,

Running J16, but I think my question will apply to almost all Jaws versions.
What Jaws setting will tell Jaws to say the letters of a word in all
capitolized letters rather than pronounce an all caps word as a word?
Example: SUV, Jaws pronounce it as a word, & would like for Jaws to say, S
U V. Or, NY, & to have Jaws say, N Y. Thanks much.
Take care.
