Tammy,
Download the latest version of jaws 17, you are using to your download
folder,
And delete jaws 17,
Use narrator to get the installation going.
Hopefully this will end your problem,

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried them. I finally got Jaws going but
this weird problem keeps happening. I'm glad I have Narrorator. I believe
dear old FS might be hearing from me on this one. So strange!

Highlight Jaws and press alt F and go to the jaws option menu, under basic
and check that it is set to jaws to come on on startup,
You will need visual help, since jaws is not talking,
Check your mute key and also try insert spacebar S...

Ok, Jaws continues to baffle me. I am running Jaws 17 on a Windows
8.1 laptop. I can not get Jaws to speak. When I turn my computer on, I am
getting sounds except from Jaws. I have tried loading Jaws from the desktop
icon & the run command. I did get a strange sound when I tried entering on
the icon. I even tried loading Jaws 14, with no results. I have gone into
the run command, typed sndvol and experimented with the volume controls for
jaws. Still nothing. When I shut my computer down, it will say, Jaws for
Windows. Ok, I surrender! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
