Have you tried holding down the lefthand shift key while booting up, this was supposed to stop startup programmes running I think. MsConfig32 Has a startup tab as well.

Arrow up / down through this list using the spacebar to uncheck anything in this list that you don't want starting with the computer. 5. Tab, to Okay, & press enter.
