Hi Adrian,

Thanks for re-posting George's instructions.  You are right, George's
suggested technique is much easier and avoids all of the issues I'm
constantly running into.  Of course if I were not getting old I would have
figured out this short cut on my own.  As long as David keeps this list
going and the young whipper-snappers keep eagerly posting I'm good for
another 100,000 miles!

True, but the method Jorge posted is much simpler: alt-f, I, e. If that
doesn't work, press alt before f, then I, e. No need for all that tabbing.

I use this method and it's reliable.  

 

1.       Press the Alt key to activate the menu options.

2.      Down arrow to the Info option.  This sometimes passes by and you
might have to go back up to it.

3.      Tab three times till you hear Protected View.

4.      Press Spacebar and then exit the menu options.  

That usually works and it doesn't change the way Word handles all files.
Some of them you might not want unprotected.
