Hello list, I have Kurzweil 1000 and am considering switching to Abby FineReader for my desktop OCR needs. Ive never really got use to the K1000 commands or interface and a lot of the extras that K1000 offers simply arent of interest to me. Included calculator, calendar, database look up, etc.
Like everyone else on these lists I imagine, my main interest is OCR accuracy which from my understanding shouldnt be a problem since K1000 and OpenBook use the FineReader OCR engine anyway. As a Jaws user, I am also interested to know of any possible issues or drawbacks/compromises one might encounter when using Abby FineReader as opposed to K1000. Between my iPhone with a ScanStand and the Jaws OCR feature I find myself using or needing a standalone desktop solution less and less, but for those times I do need one or wish to use for more involved scans, Id like to be able to use something where I dont have to remember a completely different set of other commands and settings like in K1000. I am using JFW 18 on both Windows 10 and 7 computers. Any feedback would be appreciated.
