Hey, Lisa!

    Hitting the delete key by itself sends the email to your deleted items 
folder of Outlook Express.  When it is there, you can, of course, retrieve 
it, if you happened to have deleted it by accident.

    Hitting shift + delete, bypasses the deleted folder, and theoretically, 
it is then irretrievable, so if you meant not to delete that email, you are 
pretty much out of luck.  For that reason, do not hit shift + delete, unless 
you are absolutely sure that you will never need it again... like an ad for 
ownership of the Golden Gate Bridge. (smile)
