Hi Jason and list,

Yes, I have had problems with JAWS saying blank when moving around in a Word
document as well as in the body of an Outlook e-mail. These problems have
existed since I have been using Office 2000 and as early as JAWS 6.0. I am
currently using Office 2003 and JAWS 7.0, and 7.1 sometimes. I have both a
Del and a Toshiba laptop. I think it is a video problem, and I think the
location of the mouse has something to do with it. Here are some things
that I do to fix it.

Option 1: Move your mouse. It doesn't appear to matter where. I usually
make a movement that is up and to the right hoping that I will move the
mouse to the upper right corner of the screen.

Option 2: Press Insert+ESC to refresh the screen.

Option 3: Use Alt+Tab to move away from your Word document, and again to
move back to it.

Option 4: Select the word, phrase, line or paragraph that is not being read
but you know exists. In most cases JAWS will read as you select. If it
doesn't, your problem is bigger then this. You can use just the arrow key
to clear the selection, and hopefully JAWS is back reading the information.

Option 5: Close JAWS with Insert+F4, and then launch JAWS with
Control+Alt+J, or whatever shortcut you use.. Make sure you have the
shortcut sequence set for JAWS.

Option 6: Close the document and re-open it.

If none of these tricks have worked, shut down the computer and go do
something fun.

HTH
Annette

Subject: [jaws-users] Jaws not reading text in word 2003

Hi everyone,
I wonder if anyone has had the same problem as me with Jaws and Word 2003. I
find that sometimes(but not always), when I open a saved word document, JAWS
will work when doing a read current line, or a read all command. However, if
I want to read word by word, or character by character, it doesn't say
anything. This is despite, like i said, read line or read all showing that
the text is in fact there. I am using JAWS 7.0, word 2003 and windows XP. If
I close word down and then reopen it again, it fixes the problem. Anybody
had this problem? I have had this problem for awhile. Only with Jaws 7.0.
However, I don't think I had it when I originally installed Jaws 7.0, but I
can't be sure, as that was a while ago. One more point. When re-reading this
email, Jaws pronounces the word read as the colour red. However, this is
only for the first two occurrences. After that it pronounces it properly. It
also says it correctly when going word by word, but not when doing the whole
sentence. I don't think I have any capitals in the first ones. Is anyone
else getting this while going through my message? Is there a reason why it
will vary like that?
Look forward to hearing from anyone.
thanks Jason
