Margaret, you might want to take a look at this software. Read the entire page as the home and pro editions are discussed down the page. It is sort of freeware but the creator asks for $7. to support his site. This not only keeps your register automatically but prints out on your own bank checks. I have not used it so can't recommend it, but someone on another list did recommend it. I looked at the one you mention but it was in ms word and hard to manage for the reasons you cited.
