Hi Clifford, Well, there are many units that are lighter, and with longer battery life, but, obviously, they would be smaller, and not have the full keyboard. I guess that the system would have to have a large screen to provide the width necessary for the full keyboard. I have looked long and hard at laptops, and it appears that the only ones that have the full keyboard are the ones with the larger screens, thus making them bigger and heavier, and I would imagine that powering that large screen is what sucks the life out of the battery. Does your HP give you the option of using a larger battery? The 9 cell Lithium Ion batteries can double charge life.

My ZD 8000 will only give one hour's use on battery, and even then the screen and other features are degraded to save energy. It does work well as a desk-top, as it is relatively quiet and the screen, according to the sighted folks who have used it, is really nice. I bought this unit specifically because it has the numeric keypad, as I could never become accustom to the standard keyboard on the Toshiba Satellite which I owned previously. I have not been disappointed at all with the keyboard. I have been considering purchasing another computer for the office, and a similar lap-top would be ideal, but I would prefer a lighter unit with longer battery life, when and if one becomes available.
